How to set up Google Workspace Directory Sync in PULT

With the Google Workspace Directory Sync, you can automatically synchronise users from your Google directory into PULT – no need to create or maintain users manually. This article shows admins how to set it up.

⚠ Important: This integration only synchronises users and groups. Meeting rooms and calendar events are still managed via the Google Calendar integration.

1. Prerequisites

Make sure that:

you are a Google Workspace admin (or have equivalent permissions)
you have access to the PULT dashboard as an admin

During setup, Google asks for these permissions, which a Google admin must confirm:

See info about users on your domain
View groups on your domain

2. Directory Sync

In the PULT dashboard, go to Settings → General → Integrations and click + Add on the Directory Sync card.

3. Add Integration

Click Add Integration and select Google Workspace.

Click Authorize with Google and confirm the permissions.

Enter a name for the integration (e.g. Google Workspace – Germany).

After successful authorisation, the integration appears in the list.

⚠ If Google shows “Access denied”, check in the Google Workspace Admin Console that access for PULT has been approved. The app must be approved by an administrator, otherwise the synchronisation won't work.

4. Integration Name and Domain

Open the Google Workspace integration to see its display name and the linked Google Workspace domain.

5. Sync Enabled

Turn on Sync Enabled. Users from this directory are then synchronised periodically.

6. Selective Group Sync

Optional: select the Google groups whose members should be synchronised. If no groups are selected, all users are synchronised. If no groups are shown, you can run the first sync without a group selection.

7. Update

Click Update to save your changes.

8. Trigger Sync

Under Synchronization, click Trigger Sync to start the first sync manually.

9. Sync History

The Sync History shows the past synchronisations. Click an entry to see, for example, how many users were read from Google, how many were created or updated in PULT and whether errors occurred.

Automatic sync

Directory Sync runs automatically every 4 hours (00:00 • 04:00 • 08:00 • 12:00 • 16:00 • 20:00). You can also trigger a sync manually at any time.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when a user is deleted or deactivated in Google?

The user is automatically archived in PULT. The integration must stay active for this.

Why do I see the error “Failed to create user – already exist”?

An email address can currently only exist once in PULT globally. This error can appear if the same user already exists in another PULT organisation.

Does the Directory Sync also sync meeting rooms?

No, meeting rooms and calendar events are managed via the Google Calendar integration.
